On Jan 17, the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) issued a press release informing the public about the opening of three organic waste disposal sites.
Starting Jan. 22, residential and commercial customers will have access to this new service. The Grohman Narrows, Ootischenia, and Central (Salmo) facilities accept organic waste during their regular operating hours.
All organic waste from these sites will be transported to the Central Compost Facility in Salmo to be turned into compost.
Since opening in August the Central Compost Facility has processed over 400 tonnes of organic waste. Waste is collected from the City of Castlegar curbside collection program, the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) curbside collection program and the City of Nelson food cycler program.
CJLY spoke with Matt Morrison, the RDCK organics coordinator, for more information.
