It will take more time to clean up a downtown Liverpool property destroyed by fire in the spring, as RCMP pause their investigation due to a lack of evidence.
The fire at 89 Main St. in May destroyed the historic and abandoned Hendry House, which was likely built around 1893, according to a local historian.
Fire crews from around Queens County responded to the blaze which began overnight on May 13. Local fire officials referred the matter to Queens District RCMP, who announced in June that they deemed the fire suspicious.
Also in June, the Region of Queens declared the property dangerous and unsightly and ordered the owner to clean it up, or the municipality would do it and charge her for the expense.
Mayor Darlene Norman said the cleanup is on hold while municipal officials consult with provincial environment officials about how to dispose of the material safely.
