June is the start of pride season, a time when people who are part of the Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning community come together, along with allies, to recognize the contributions and resiliences of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
Here in Revelstoke, pride season got its start a little early as the team at Mount Revelstoke National Park treated the community to a pride celebration at Snow Forest Campground in May.
As part of its family-friendly festivities, attendees were treated to queer ecology walks. According to the Sierra Club, “queer ecology uses a practice called “queering” — which means, in part, to make something different or strange — to question the assumptions underlying concepts such as “wild” or “natural”.”
StokeFM spoke with Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks’ public outreach education officer Laura Bernier and asked her what queer critters people might be able to spot while walking the trails in Mount Revelstoke National Park this summer.
