Quebec’s 34th annual Suicide Prevention Week (Feb. 4 till 10) aims to spark conversations and save lives.
A recent report published by Quebec’s public health institute revealed stable suicide rates in the province in recent years, despite pre-pandemic years trending downward. Pascale Levesque, author of the report and scientific advisor at the INSPQ, told CJLO that suicidality presents differently in men and women, and the plateau in rates demonstrates continued cause for concern. She said it’s possible that social conditions and new risk factors like social media might contribute to the persistent rates, but it’s not entirely understood yet.
