BC minimum wage workers will be getting an increase in their paychecks starting in June as the province announces an increase to minimum wage.
On Feb. 26, the province announced they will be increasing the minimum wage from $16.75 to $17.40 an hour on June 1.
As well, the province announced amendments to the Employment Standards Act that will tie future increases to the minimum wage to the previous year’s average inflation rate.
Anastasia French, provincial manager for Living Wage for Families BC, tells CHLY that this increase is a good start but there is still a lot the government could do for residents to afford basic needs.
