NL Health Minister Tom Osborne says the province is filling nursing vacancies. Osborne gave an update on numbers and says he was not aware the Newfoundland Labrador Nurses Union had been asking for these numbers since October.
Over 400 nurses have been recruited to the province since last year and vacancies are going down slightly from 760 to 700. The provincial government is also trying to reduce the number of travel nurses. Osborne says recruitment efforts are working but with baby boomers retiring, there are shortages in many areas making it challenging to fill careers.
