The Province of Ontario has changed the rules regarding wetlands and their buffer zones. Previously provincially significant wetlands had been the only ones with rules, including a 120-metre buffer zone. Under the new regulations all wetlands in the province are being mapped, and the buffer zone has been set at 30 metres.
South Nation Conservation has now prepared maps of its watershed and invites members of the public to check the maps and inform the SNC if there appears to be an error.
Carl Bickerdike, CAO of SNC, explains the differences in an interview, and sounds recorded at a wetland in Russell Township serve as the backdrop.
