On Tuesday night, hundreds of Montrealers gathered outside the Spanish and Portuguese synagogue at 4894 Ave Saint-Kevin, where “the great Israeli real estate event” was advertised to take place that day.
A webpage for the event, which is part of a short tour in Canada and the US, promises a “chance to own a piece of the holy land.” But among the places listed are West Bank settlements deemed illegal under international law.
CKUT spoke to organizers from Palestinian Youth Movement Montreal and Independent Jewish Voices Montreal, who co-organized the protest.
CKUT also spoke to the CJA Federation, one of the plaintiffs on an injunction served to the pro-Palestinian groups that night. The injunction prohibits protest within 50 metres of a number of Jewish community buildings in the city for a period of 10 days since it was given.
