A collaborative project between Habitat For Humanity Northumberland and the Community Training and Development Centre in Cobourg has received $665,880 in provincial funding.
The announcement was made by Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini, who is also Ontario’s Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
The project will provide instruction for 30 participants on construction skills and techniques. During the course they will get hands-on experience through current Habitat builds in the community.
Piccini said this new partnership also addresses two crises Canada faces including the decline in productivity and the lack of affordable and attainable housing. He said Northumberland and Ontario need more homes and there is also the need for more people to enter the skilled trades.
