Nurses in New Brunswick now know when they will receive their promised $10,000 retention bonuses from the Holt government.
It was announced that 9,950 retention payments will be sent out on December 19th, with the hopes that they will be received by December 31st or shortly into the new year.
Approximately 1000 LPNs under the Canadian Union of Public Employees, or CUPE, have yet to sign the provinces letter of agreement as they are waiting on a formal letter of commitment from the government to repeal Bill 17, the Pension Plan Sustainability and Transfer Act, which transferred several locals represented by CUPE from a defined benefit pension to a shared risk model.
The bonuses will cost the province $83 million, which is an additional $60 million added to the previously budgeted $23 million for the province’s wage bill for 2024-25.
