On December 16, staff at Pontiac High School called an assembly during their annual Christmas Cup volleyball tournament to hold an official ribbon cutting for their newly installed bleachers.
Darcy Findlay, a phys ed. teacher and one of the instigators of the fundraising drive for the new seats, explained that they had been more than a year in the works, and were funded largely though donations from the community and alumni. He said that they were surprised at how quickly the goal was met.
Findlay said that they were quoted around $75,000 for the bleachers, which are motorized and can retract against the wall. The Western Quebec School Board contributed the difference between the amount raised and the total cost. He said that they had been installed for a couple weeks now, but tournament provided a good opportunity to show them off.
Looking to the future, Findlay said that they’d tossed around a few ideas for future fundraising projects.
