Cape Breton Regional Police are updating the public about the ongoing investigation into the disappearance and believed murder of Justin MacDonald.
At a media event Thursday morning inspector and manager of the file Joe Farrell told reporters police have followed up on hundreds of tips and have searched 50 locations in the CBRM.
“As the investigation progressed these efforts revealed that Justin had been murdered,” Farrell says. “At this time we are still unable to locate Justin. The investigation will remain ongoing until Justin is located.”
However he adds that while police are following up on every lead, there are currently no active searches underway and police have not been able to narrow down where MacDonald’s body could be. He did not offer any details as to how police came to the conclusion MacDonald was murdered without finding his body.
He was last seen at the Irving gas station on Commerical Street in North Sydney around 11 p.m. on the night of July seventh, 2020.
Three people have been arrested in connection to MacDonald’s disappearance and suspected murder: Mitchell George McPhee was arrested on December 13 and charged with manslaughter, robbery and assault. A week later, Ryan Joseph Pike was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and robbery. At the end of the month, Aaron Curtis Mickey was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, robbery and four counts of firearm-related offences.
