On Jun. 11 the Aga Khan Museum will be hosting the stage play “The Caged Bird Sings”, an adaptation of the Persian poet Rumi’s work titled Masnavi.
The Caged Bird Sings is by Rouvan Silogix, Rafeh Mahmud & Ahad Lakhani. It follows two scientists and a mysterious vagabond stuck in a cage as they go through their new reality of imprisonment.
Mahmud says that when it came to the writing experience each person had their own take on Rumi’s work, which lead to disagreements in what to have in the adaptation.
“Rumi is ethereal, he’s always been around, sort of like Shakespeare,” says Mahmud. “There’s not just one interpretation of his work, because it’s so gray.”
With all of the disagreements settled, the show will open in the courtyard of the Aga Khan Museum on June 11 and will run until June 20.
