It’s about to get a lot quieter for residents near Beaufort Park as the City of Nanaimo is moving the pickleball courts to a new location.
Construction is underway for eight new pickleball courts at the park after the city heard complaints about the racket the Beaufort courts there were making.
This comes after the Nanaimo city council voted in December 2023 to spend $518,000 to create eight new outdoor pickleball courts at Beban Park to replace the courts at Beaufort Park.
CHLY spoke with the mayor of Nanaimo Leonard Krog about the new project and the increase in demand for more pickleball courts in the community.
As well CHLY spoke with Dave Eaton, a local pickleball player and member of the Nanaimo Pickleball Club. He talks about the rise in popularity of pickleball in Nanaimo and the excitement of the new courts.
