Starting Jan. 1, the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough has changed the pricing for parking permit stickers. The borough is adopting a system first pioneered by Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie, where vehicle owners are charged according to the weight of their car.
As vehicles grow heavier, they often grow larger in size, taking up more valuable street-parking space, according to the city. The system doubles as a climate-change measures, as larger vehicles are more likely to be gas guzzlers.
Under the new system, the price doubles between the lightest and heaviest vehicles.
