As warmer weather approaches, downtown Peterborough will begin to see the implementation of its outdoor patio program starting the week of May 13.
In previous years the outdoor patio program was part of a “COVID recovery program,” says Nicole Huculiak, an Urban Design Supervisor for the City of Peterborough. But, in 2023, Peterborough City Council voted to make the temporary changes annual.
This year’s patio program will look “similar” to previous years, says Huculiak: a portion of Hunter St. W. will be reduced to one-way traffic, and extended patios will be seen on the closed portion of Hunter St. W. and in on-street parking areas.
Applications for businesses to have an extended patio will be open until May 31. One local business owner, Helen McCarthy of Kit Croissanterie & Café, has concerns about the application fee (costing $320).
