Peterborough Police Services (PPS) has joined in a partnership with the City of Peterborough and 529 Garage for their local bicycle registration service.
529 Garage is a project that aims to “reduce bike theft, [promote] cycling, and [make] cities and campuses more bike-friendly,” according to their website.
Until this May, PPS have used an internal system for bicycle registration. They will now use 529’s bicycle registration system instead.
The most noticeable distinction from the previous registration system is that community members now have direct access to the service: cyclists can now upload bicycle information, report stolen bicycles, and receive notifications of stolen bicycles, from the 529 Garage website.
There is no cost to register a bicycle with 529 Garage, and, as of June 3, over 1,000 residents have already registered under the new system.
