Despite ongoing fundraisers and a recent Christmas market, local non-profit Peg City Kindness Crew is seeing first-hand the demand for food services, with overwhelming requests for holiday hampers. The organization was created after co-founders Jai and Deanna saw the need within their community. According to Jai, that need has only grown.
However, Jai says Peg City Kindness Crew is not in the business of letting people down. The organization must secure nearly $30,000 and 450 additional sponsors to meet the need. Even those who have supported Peg City Kindness Crew in past years are finding themselves in need of help this holiday season.
Since its informal beginning, the organization has fed thousands of Winnipeggers. Jai acknowledges the need for growth and long-term sustainability to meet the rising demand. Recent initiatives, such as the Christmas market fundraiser that brought in $3,000, have been helpful but insufficient to cover the growing gap.
