Increased parking prices in town in recent years, affecting both attendees and volunteers, caused organizers of the Cobourg Highland Games to look for a new venue.
Parking rates in Cobourg near the waterfront and Victoria Park where the Games were previously based are $5 an hour and up to $40 for the day.
Now in its 60th year, the event has been rebranded the Northumberland Scottish Festival and Highland Games and has moved to Port Hope’s Agricultural Park. The event begins Friday night and continues all day Saturday.
Tickets will be available at the gate for $20, though ages 12 and under will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult. The full schedule of events is available at northumberlandhighlandgames.ca.
