The Lancaster Bomber exhibit at Base 31 has proven to be so popular that two more opportunities have been added for the public to visit the temporary exhibition.
The bomber, which played a major role in the Allied air defences during World War 2, was available for public viewing on the Canada Day weekend as a special event. Curator Madeline Smolarz has announced two more opportunities — on Labour Day and Thanksgiving weekends — in what Smolarz has called “Lancaster Long Weekends”.
Base 31 is a new museum which will open in 2025. This initial project is a collaboration between the fledgling museum and the National Airforce Museum of Canada (NAFMC), based in Trenton. The plane is on loan from the NAFMC, and will reside at Base 31 until 2029 when it will return to Trenton.
CJPE News talks to Madeline Smolarz about the exhibit, the history of the Lancaster Bomber and the progress of the new Base 31 Museum.
