Heading into a holiday weekend, Northumberland OPP are urging motorists to slow down, especially on Highway 401 in this region which stretches from Port Hope through Cobourg to Brighton.
The latest stunt driving charge was laid this past Friday morning as a 22-year-old from Sharon, Ontario was caught going 158 kilometres per hour on Hwy. 401 eastbound through Port Hope. A 24-year-old female from Scarborough was stopped last Thursday on Hwy. 401 westbound in Port Hope for traveling 163 kilometres per hour. Two 24-year-old passengers received tickets for not wearing their seatbelts properly.
CFWN spoke with Northumberland OPP Constable and media relations officer James Clarke about stunt and impaired driving. He said there have been 69 stunt driving charges laid since the start of the year and 53 impaired charges, including four more this past Friday through Saturday.
Clarke also spoke about scams continuing to circulate in the area.
