The North Coast Ecology Centre Society (NCECS) is finding micro plastics, lots of micro plastics, all over B.C.’s North Coast near Prince Rupert.
Locating micro plastics is the easy part — finding out where they came from and how to limit their spread, is much more difficult. The NCECS has just finished the first year of a two year study to figure out where the main source of the plastic is coming from, how much plastics debris is on the North Coast and what can be done about it.
CICK News talked to Colin Masson, a NCECS a Board Member and advisor on the micro plastics study. “I’ve seen much of the coast and in some of the most remote places we’ve found tires, coolers, water bottles, lots of water bottles,” said Masson.
