Loyalist Township has granted Umicore Battery Materials Canada Inc. an exemption to the township’s noise by-law. The battery production plant will now be able to continue construction work on Sundays and holidays.
Communications have been sent out from the plant to residents in the surrounding area. At the time of publication, both Umicore and the township noted that there haven’t been any complaints received from residents. Township staff and representatives from Umicore have stated communication lines will remain open with local residents to address questions or concerns.
Umicore is now exempt from noise prohibition under Activity 4, 5 and 13 of Schedule 2 of the township’s noise by-law between 6am and 9pm daily and on Sundays and holidays, until July 2, 2024.
