NL Opposition leader Tony Wakeham is calling for an investigation either by the Auditor General or the RCMP after a media report uncovered misspending travel nurses.
The Globe and Mail article uncovered things like $1.6 million spent on meals for these nurses who didn’t get the meals. Wakeham is concerned over government’s lack of accountability to the people of this province, he said. This followed NL Health Minister Tom Osborne questioning the need for an investigation, but has since changed his position to ask the Controller General to step in and investigate. Wakeham says unlike the Controller General, the Auditor General is independent from the House of Assembly. CKVB News spoke with the PC Leader about his concerns.
