New Westminster’s təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre has received two awards for its innovative design. The two awards are an Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certified Gold rating, and the Prix Versailles 2024 World Title Special Prize for an Interior in the Sports category.
The building, which is the City of New Westminster’s largest capital project to date, was designed specifically with accessibiility in mind by Vancouver-based architecture firm hcma. According to the firm, it reflects the pre-contact landscape and history of the region.
The name means sea otter in the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ native langauge. It is pronounced TUH-muh-sowt.
