The Smithers Mountain Bike Association (SMBA) has been awarded a grant of $350,000 from the provincial Destination Development Infrastructure Fund to build a trail called ‘Round The Lake’, a 6 km trail within the Controlled Recreation Area of Hudson Bay Mountain Resort.
The Smithers Mountain Bike Association (SMBA) is a group of mountain bike enthusiasts that aim to keep Smithereens excited about exploring the Bulkley Valley via biking trails.
Construction of the Round The Lake trail is currently underway and will be useable by next biking season. Plans for continuing the trail to Crater Lake are under review. It is being built with sustainability and low impact as top priorities, and the gentle grade makes it suitable for all users. Scannable signage at viewpoints along the route will allow users to access interesting information about the landmarks and history of the Bulkley Valley.
