The Spire Arts & Community Hub has created a by-and-for seniors’ theatre group, filling a unique gap in the Kingston arts scene by focusing on seniors’ performance opportunities.
Their first production, based on the book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten by Robert Fulghum, will be hitting the stage at The Spire this fall.
“We looked across the Kingston landscape and we didn’t see a lot of opportunities for people who were senior citizens to get involved in the arts, particularly around performing arts, and it’s interesting right? When you are an artist That doesn’t just turn off when you hit 65 or 70 or 75 or something. You need to keep that going,” says Sam MacLeod, General Manager of The Spire.
The cast and crew have been working under director Ian Malcolm to prepare for the approaching opening night on Sept. 12.
