Prince George’s community radio station (CFIS-FM-93.1) and campus FM university radio (CFURadio 88.7) are collaborating with the Prince George Nechako Employment & Training Association (PGNAETA) to provide a 25-week hands on training program. The program focuses on imbuing indigenous youth with Radio Broadcast skills. Starting in January 2024, when the program wraps up in July, six youths will be fully trained to work in radio station broadcasting.
Heather Mackenzie, PGNAETA’s Pre-Employment Services Team Lead for Prince George expresses excitement, saying that this is the first radio station broadcast training program of its kind. Gen Tucker at CFUR-FM states that it will “also be a great opportunity just to share more stories to the north … and we’re really looking forward to having the opportunity to do that.”
