Riverdale Park Community Centre will host a distribution drive for sanitary pads to be dropped off in the coming weeks.
A new six-month program is providing free menstrual products for new immigrants, refugee claimants and women facing homelessness in Toronto.
The new initiative, Bridging Circles, is powered by the non-profit organization Rafiki Bridge, established in 2023, to confront period poverty, challenge social stigma and remove cultural barriers around menstrual health.
They’re aiming to reach 500 women in need by working alongside local community centres in the city such as The African Centre for Refugees, Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre and Dominion Church. The program also hopes to address menstrual health and hygiene, offering access to mentors and resources for people diagnosed with chronic and painful pelvic diseases like endometriosis.
Founder and executive director Masiki Plaggart joins Met Radio to share what brought on the project and why she saw a need for it.
