Following in his father’s footsteps, Jim Jessop will be Toronto’s new fire chief, taking office on Jan. 2.
Currently serving as Deputy Chief, Jessop was appointed by city council in an unanimous vote, replacing Matthew Pegg who served as head of Toronto Fire Services for almost a decade.
Jessop, who’s worked with Toronto Fire for nearly 30 years, is laying out a number of prominent issues he intends to address in his time. They include adapting emergency responses to Toronto’s rise in vertical buildings and recruiting new firefighters from equity deserving groups.
CJTM News talked to Jim Jessop about what he is hoping to achieve as he begins his new role.
