WELLINGTON – A new exhibit from the Wellington County Museum and Archives comes as a new Senate of Canada report urges action to protect the soil.
It was no coincidence that a new Senate report, “Critical Ground: Why Soil is Essential to Canada’s Economic, Environmental, Human, and Social Health” is being followed by the opening of the new exhibit, “Not Just Dirt: Digging into the Science of Soil.”
Senator Rob Black attended the opening for the exhibit on Saturday and says it is a perfect fit given a big component of the senate report’s recommendations is education. It also calls for a national soil strategy and the appointment of a soil advocate.
Black says the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations warns we have just 26 years to protect the world’s soil or we won’t be able to grow food.
Admission to exhibit at the Wellington County Museum and Archives is by donation.
