Pro-Palestine activists have been camping out in downtown Montreal’s Square Victoria since Saturday. The new Al-Sumud People’s Encampment is calling on Quebec to close its new Tel Aviv office.
They’re also demanding the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) divest from 87 companies they say are complicit in the war in Gaza, totalling $14 billion. This accounts for roughly three percent of the CDPQ’s $434 billion in assets, according to human rights organization Just Peace Advocates.
CKUT was on the scene for the camp’s first press conference. The CDPQ and the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration did not immediately provide comment when contacted by CKUT.
