Prince Edward Lennox and Addington Social Services (PELASS) announced this week that they’re supporting two initiatives to support early learning and the childcare workforce. The initiatives include a licensed childcare outdoor clothing allowance, as well as a one-time child care fee relief.
Staff noted the initiatives are to help with current affordability strategies, as well as recruitment and retention efforts. Both initiatives are supported through funds received by the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada.
With the various weather conditions throughout the year, and rising costs, staff noted the allowance for outdoor clothing will help offset the costs for educators working outdoors with children.
The one-time childcare fee relief initiative lasts for the months of November and December. Families accessing eligible licensed childcare in Prince Edward or Lennox and Addington will not receive an invoice for fees in November or December.
