With the affordability of housing a major concern for New Brunswickers, the Liberals promised a rent cap to struggling tenants during their campaign for the recent provincial election. This week, Susan Holt’s new Liberal government aims to implement this by bringing in a bill to limit the amount rent in the province can be raised to 3%.
David Hickey, new Provincial Housing Minister, spoke with Local 107.3FM about the rent cap and how he hopes it will assist Saint John’s many renters, as well the plans to remove the provincial sales tax on multi-unit development.
Hickey also addressed some of the questions and issues surrounding the new legislation and the challenges the province still faces in providing affordable housing to all residents.
