On Jan. 30, Nelson Cares sent out a press saying the Coordinated Access Hub, a harm reduction space in the community, will be closing in March due to reduced funding and increased costs.
“We are aware that the closure of the HUB will have a significant impact on the vulnerable
population, peers and front-line workers,” the press release states.
“We will continue to advocate for funding and support for a HUB program for this community,” the statement adds. “We are working diligently to find a new location that is suitable to the host the drop-in resource and referral centre with extended services that will be sustainable over the long-term.”
CJLY reached out to Nelson Cares for an interview but has yet to receive a response.
Tanya Finley of Nelson’s Neighbourhood Network, a group formed in response to the toxic drug crisis, spoke with CJLY on the closing of The Hub.
