Events organizer Chillsounds will host an event chock-full of Indigenous cultural expression in a gala it dubs “chillcouture,” to mark National Indigenous Peoples Day, observed annually on June 21.
“I definitely wanted to showcase and have an evening gala,” said Helena Paul, the project director for the event. “I really wanted to provide a space for some of our beautiful, amazing, talented artists.”
The event will feature the fashions of local Indigenous women designers, including Lyn Kay, Nikki LaRock, and Crystal Chapman. Their designs will be shown off by about 30 Indigenous models.
Flutist Arnie Leon, country singer Dion Weisbrod, and gritty electronic pop artist Maddi K are each set to perform.
Doors to the event open at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Shxwá:y Cultural Centre, located at 44692-B Skway Road, Chilliwack.
