Members of the Nanaimo community marched downtown on February 14th to bring awareness to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) across Canada.
This was in part of the annual Women’s Memorial March that takes place every year in communities across the country.
CHLY speaks to Leah Vaisanen the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Students Union’s Indigenous Student Representative about the march and how it came to be. Vaisanen talked about how marches like this are important to advocate for those who might be unable to advocate for themselves.
