The Nanaimo Curling Club has run into a “not so cool” problem with its centre’s chiller.
During a routine mandated chiller inspection at the end of the recent season, it was found the chiller needed to keep the ice on the rinks frozen is in poor shape.
CHLY met with Tom Weinreich, the current president of the curling club at the centre, to talk about the current state of the chiller. He says the cost to replace the current chiller with a new one is $235,600.
Weinreich attended the City of Nanaimo’s Finance and Audit Committee meeting on June 19 to see what the city could do to help cover the costs for the new chiller.
But a new option has recently come up for the club to repair the current chiller, which could lower the total cost.
