On Wednesday morning, the provincial government held a news conference to announce funding for diabetes care in the 2024-25 budget.
Premier Tim Houston announced that the Nova Scotia government will be investing $7.2 million into diabetes supplies and continuous glucose monitors (CGM) for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
The funding will be distributed through a new income-based program as well as current pharmacare programs. Nova Scotian household incomes of less than $60,000 a year will pay no deductible while household incomes between $60,000 and $150,000 will pay a deductible between $500 and $1000.
The age cap for the Nova Scotia Insulin Pump Program that was previously only available to those under the age of 26 will also be removed.
More information on both programs and how to apply will be released by the province in coming months.
