If you’re interested in how Montreal has changed over the years, you may have already heard of Montreal Then and Now. The popular Instagram account shares historic and contemporary photos–placed back-to-back–of Montreal landmarks through the decades.
Now the duo behind the account are going deeper into history with a new book. Montreal Invisible: Lost Spaces of Montreal from 1830-2016 showcases 20 once-iconic spots that no longer exist.
Some of the featured spots are predecessors to current spaces in the city – the old Montreal Forum, or the Notre-Dame Church that once stood side-by-side with the Basilica we know today. Others, like the Crystal Palace or Rockhead’s Paradise, are gone and mostly forgotten.
Authors Elijah Herron and Lucy Earle join CKUT to share some of these places from Montreal’s past, and discuss what they’ve learned about how the city has changed.
