Her Majesty’s Royal Chapel of The Mohawks or Mohawk Chapel has become the first Church within a First Nations community in Canada to receive a grant of a Royal Coat of Arms from the Canadian Heraldic Authority.
The Royal Coat of Arms will now be displayed in Mohawk Chapel, the oldest surviving church in Ontario.
Dr. Barry Hill, warden of Mohawk Chapel says a ceremony is currently being planned to take place on Sept. 29, 2024 to recognize the event. Mohawk Chapel is looking for financial assistance from Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) to hold the event and invite dignitaries of the crown including the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and the Governor General of Canada to be in attendance.
