Mission City Coun. Ken Herar tried again at Monday night’s council meeting to launch a motion to amend the city’s flag etiquette policy and allow a Pride flag to hang at city hall in support of Fraser Valley Pride (FVP), held annually in Heritage Park. The motion failed to get a seconder.
Following the meeting, Coun. Herar told CIVL Radio that although he was hesitant to reintroduce this motion, he felt, “snubbed,” by Mayor Paul Horn, and that he had hoped to read into the record quotations offered to him by youth from Fraser Valley Youth Society, operators of FVP.
In a statement, Mayor Paul Horn said, “we have supported pride by hosting and attending the pride festival at Heritage Park, providing support for a liquor permit, providing office space to Fraser Valley Youth Society … proclaiming Pride Week each year, and flying the pride flag at our leisure centre.”
