Mission Community Services Society (MCSS) says an early July pledge drive to fund the operation of its Mobile Medical Unit (MMU), a recreational vehicle retrofitted into a medical clinic, fell short when it raised nearly $8,100.
“The goal was $25,000. So … almost around 33 per cent of that goal, “said Jasmeet Matta, with MCSS, “we are grateful to whoever contributed and were able to donate.”
The funds will cover fuel, insurance, and supplies for three months, Matta said, in order to operate two mobile clinic sessions per week – a stop at the Mission Youth Centre every Tuesday, and at Leq’á:mel First Nation every Wednesday.
The City of Mission provided MCSS with the MMU in the summer of 2023 along with one year of funding, which expired in June.
CIVL Radio offered Mission Mayor Paul Horn an opportunity to comment. He didn’t reply before this story was published.
