While a recent report shows that cost of living is looking to be no less of an issue in 2025 than in 2024, a local initiative is doing its small part in helping Saint John households meet their needs by providing cheap fruit and vegetables.
The report, by one of Canada’s largest consumer insolvency firms, MNP (previously known as Meyers Norris Penny), found that half of Canadians are within just $200 of being unable to pay their bills.
Although having operated for some years, the Saint John Food Purchasing Club has been seeing rapidly growing usage over recent months and years.
Local 107.3FM spoke with dietician Martha MacLean about the scheme, how the uptake has increased, and the health benefits of including fruit and vegetables in people’s diets.
