Local environmental advocates the Tantramar Alliance Against Hydrofracking hosted a meeting last week in Sackville to mobilize around a call from Sierra Club Canada for the federal government to implement an emissions cap on oil and gas companies.
Sierra Club Canada’s Gretchen Fitzgerald is on a summer tour promoting the emissions cap call, in response to the government’s draft framework announced in December.
“Millions of Canadians want to see this pollution under control,” Fitzgerald told CHMA after the meeting, “and we are reaching out in face to face meetings and town halls across Atlantic Canada to ask people to step up to sign a petition to make sure that the regulation being proposed is real and will bring down greenhouse gas emissions.”
