Local dance studio “Michelle Farmer’s Studio of Dance and Modelling” is looking to celebrate it’s 50th anniversary with the community, as organizers have begun discussions to host an event during the 2025 Community Awareness Month in May with the support of council.
Volunteer, Erin Monture made a presentation at SNEC’s general council meeting on Jan. 14 in hopes to have council approve a funding request of $46,000 for a May 17 showcase at the Sanderson Center in Brantford.
Monture says the requested amount will assist with the venue’s cost.
Some councilors discussed providing funding for the event with the dance studio being a private business.
Monture explained that the plan for the event is to be a showcase of the community’s talent and culture with performances from other Six Nations’ artists and that the dance studio will not profit from the event.
SNEC did pass a motion to have it’s finance department follow up on the funding request and determine if funds are available to assist with the event and discuss the request at the next general finance meeting.
