Two local men have reel big dreams, as they represent Team Canada at the 2024 Bass Master Team Championship in Tennessee this December. Derek Cushing of Salem, and Dave Pol of Fergus, have been fishing for decades and have been competing as a team for three years.
They will depart on November 28 for the tournament that runs December 4-7. Cushing says they will have 3.5 days to practice fish before the tournament begins.
The team is allowed to keep five fish but those fish need to be a minimum of 15 inches in length to be considered, normally in Ontario the competition size is 12 inches.
Along with a hefty cash prize and some endorsements, the winner of the tournament, is awarded the final spot in the Bass Master Classic, which comes with a 500,000 dollar prize.
