Just outside of Peterborough, ON, you can find an authentic recreation of what a 19th century settlement would look like.
Lang Pioneer Village Museum, a “living history museum,” tells the story of the beginnings of Peterborough County, representing what it might have looked like between the years 1825-1900. This year, Lang has been nominated for an award with Attractions Ontario in the ‘Top Small Museum/Art Galleries/Historic Sites’ category. The 9th Annual Ontario’s Choice Awards season runs July 1-Sept. 8.
“We talk about the people that settled here. We talk about the impacts that settlement had on the people that were originally here,” says Elizabeth King, Museum Operations Manager at Lang Pioneer Village Museum.
Lang Pioneer Village consists of 41 historic buildings. And what makes Lang a “living history museum” are the staff and volunteers that populate the site, dressed in authentic historical attire, and going about their daily chores.
