A Liverpool artist created a striking tribute to Nova Scotia shot putter Sarah Mitton on the eve of her first appearance at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Jane Stevenson created a 120-by-60-foot tribute to Mitton in the sand Wednesday afternoon at nearby Summerville Beach.
Mitton hails from Brooklyn, which is right next door to Liverpool.
Stevenson has been working on the piece since July 27. It features an 85-foot Eiffel Tower with a Canadian flag in the middle and the Olympic rings at the base, with “Paris 2024” on one side of the tower and “Go Sarah!” on the other.
Stevenson and her husband took a photo and some drone footage of the finished product before the tide washed it away Wednesday evening. She shared it to her Facebook profile. It’s been shared more than 400 times, while the drone video was viewed more than 51,000 times.
