Thursday marked the 13th edition of the Journée québécoise des centres communautaires de loisir. It’s a day when community recreation centres invite the public to come get to know the facilities, the programming, and the team.
CKUT stopped by the Little Burgundy Sports Centre to speak to director Dickens Mathurin. Mathurin is also vice-president of the Fédération québécoise des centres communautaires de loisir, the group behind Thursday’s celebration.
Mathurin told CKUT that community centres the day is intended to strengthen ties between rec centres and the communities they serve. “Community centres work for, but mostly with their communities .. to create programs that target and answer some of their needs and concerns”.
